GOOGLE IS ON THEIR WAY     Good News Jackson County

Google an American multinational company providing Internet and related services has announced plans to build a data center at Widows Creek located in Jackson County.

Construction is expected to begin in early 2016 with completion in mid 2017.

When completed the facility will employ between 75 and 100 personnel.

During the next 18 to 20 months as many as 500 constuction workers will be needed to build the facility and de-comission the TVA plant at Widows Creek.

The decision to build at Widows Creek in part was due to the ample availability of water and power to support the facility.

With the Lenoir NC facility as a model we can expect more construction over the next five years as well as addittional businesses to support the Google Data Center.

               Habitat for Humanity

Dex Bender, President of the Board of Habitat for Humanity and retired Rector at Saint Lukes Episcopal Church spoke at a recent Lions Club meeting.

Photographs detailed the construction progress of a home modified to four bedrooms.

To qualify for a home the family must currently live in sub-standard housing and one in the family must be gainfully employed.

The construction crew consists of volunteers and the owner must contribute to that labor.

It is important to remember that there is no cost to the taxpayers and the owner has a mortgage payment each month.

The home most recently completed is the fourteenth home completed in Jackson County most of which are on a tract of land near Stevenson which was donated.

Anyone wishing to volunteer in any way may do so by contacting The Jackson County Habitat for Humanity.

The Annual Chili Challenge held at Goosepond Civic Center is the centerpiece for fund raising.

                Acronym FAST

Lions Bill Coleman, Elna Matthews and Bill Knight related their experiences with heart attacks, strokes and aneurysms. In each event the need for immediate medical care was stressed.                   Brain aneurysms generally cause  a severe headache and heart attachs severe chest pain with pain extending down the left arm.

Strokes are caused by a lack of blood flow to brain and may be the result of a brain aneurysm or blockage of the carotid artery.

In the event of a stoke it is well to remember the acronym FAST.
